El cantante y compositor Tony Bennett que tuvo una carrera musical de ocho décadas y consiguió la fama con “I Left My Heart in San Francisco” murió a los 96 años, informó su publicista Sylvia Weiner.

Bennett fue diagnosticado con Alzheimer en 2016, pero continuó actuando y grabando hasta 2021.
Su última actuación fue en agosto de 2021, cuando apareció junto a Lady Gaga -con quien publicó dos discos- en el Radio City Music Hall de Nueva York en un espectáculo titulado “One Last Time”.

Columbia Records, fichó a Bennett en 1950 y alcanzó el estrellato en 1962 con el lanzamiento de su canción “I Left My Heart in San Francisco”.
Frank Sinatra describió a Bennett como el cantante popular más grande del mundo. Bennett también dejó marca en el cine, debutó en la gran pantalla de en 1966 con “El Oscar” y en 1999 en se interpretó a sí mismo en la comedia “Analyze This” junto a Robert De Niro y Billy Crystal. Tiempo despues volvió a interpretar una versión de sí mismo, pero esta vez animada, en “The Simpson”.
